December Rare Bird, Nicola Rae-Wickham, Founder A Life More Inspired

Meet Her

Picture
“I am passionate about helping small businesses' to create awesome customer experiences. Working with them to avoid overwhelm, by reframing traditional marketing and finding ways to inject their love for what they do in promoting their business. Having decided to combine a 12 year career as a marketing professional, experience as a blogger a love of the creative industries and a desire to have my own business - A Life More Inspired was born.  My life’s mantra is to ‘Enjoy the journey!’ and it is something I am determined to help the people I work with do. Sometimes we focus on the end-goal whilst forgetting to appreciate the path that leads us there.”

Learn Her Story

SB-L: Tell us the why behind your business.
NR-W:

I love helping people to take control of their lives and realise that they can have a say in designing a life they want to live, rather than letting life live them. So whether it be helping a business owner market their business in a way that feels good and stems from their passion. Or helping people to live more consciously in their day-to-day lives, it is all done from a heart centred place of passion and purpose. I also love learning and sharing and together, this is what The Social Stylist is all about.

SB-L: What major challenges did you face when setting up your business and how  did you overcome them?
NR-W:
The major challenge was finding the space to do all of the things I wanted and needed to do. I am a mum to a beautiful toddler and I have a part-time job, so my energy is going in so many directions. But these ideas for my business are pretty persistent and the wider message is one I am so passionate about, that I have adjusted and learned to work efficiently and effectively within
pockets of time. My vision is sometimes bigger than my schedule allows but I learning to accept it
as part of my journey. Confidence with being visible and a fear of being seen was a challenge that completely took me by surprise. Through this entrepreneurial journey I have learnt more about myself than I have in all my other 30 ‘something’ years of being. I continue to work on this everyday and have learnt how to manage it better. Meditation and journalling are all now part of my ‘life’ toolkit.

SB-L: Who has been the greatest influence on you since starting your venture and why?
NR-W: I honestly don’t know if I can cite just one person. I have been blessed to connect with so many like-minded souls who are so generous and have created awesome communities which has then led me to connect with others. That mutually supportive environment is crucial when going it alone.

SB-L:What is the vision for your business and where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
NR-W: My vision for my business is for it to develop in two areas. There will be The Social Stylist for business - where I continue to help wedding and creative businesses create awesome customer experiences and take the overwhelm out of marketing their businesses. Trashing the ‘traditional’ approach and instead thinking about everything through the lens of the customer experience and ultimately just being yourself. Believing you are enough and that the story is within you.And The Social Stylist for Life - where I am helping people to live more consciously. I don’t know exactly what this will look like yet but the ideas are flowing, so watch this space.  The overall message will be about grabbing hold of life and living it rather than letting it live you. Curating the hell out of life and always enjoying the journey.

SB-L:Our motto is share your secrets and share your success. Share 1 secret and share 1 success with our community from your entrepreneurial journey.
NR-W: My one secret would be to learn to trust and tune into your intuition. It is a powerful thing if you allow it the space to guide you. A success from my entrepreneurial journey is the meaningful connections I create with the people I work with. Very often we start talking about marketing their business but it goes so much deeper than that. Delving into their stories and helping them to realise how amazing they are and how we can use these details to better connect with their ideal clients and get more sales!
